YU (President CHOI Oe-chool) held “2023 Future Mobility Mid-to-long-term Education Program” and “Future Mobility Self-Work Contest”
The contest was hosted by YU Innovation Center for Engineering Education on the urban self-driving platform of YU Gyeongsan Campus. In the contest, 137 students from YU, Kyungpook National University, Kumoh University of Technology, Daegu University, Andong University, Korea National University of Transportation, and Halla University participated. This event consists a mid-to-long-term teaching program and a contest focused in autonomous driving technology for students interested in the field of future transportation, participants received online lectures and team-specific mentorship from May 22nd this year, and the contest was held for two days from August 17th to 18th.
The contest is the 2nd contest that attempted to switch from the internal combustion engine-centered self-made car production contest of the International University Student Self-Work Car Contest started at YU in 1996 to the autonomous driving field of the future of electric vehicles. 22 teams from 7 universities implemented self-driving functions in a 1/5 scale electric car for children and drove on an urban self-driving track.
This competition was sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT), and Gyeongsangbuk-do & Gyeongsan-si and the professors specializing in autonomous driving guided the education focused in autonomous driving programming including artificial intelligence and GPS.
KANG Dong-jin, director of YU Engineering Education Innovation Center hosted the contest and said, “The performance of this year's participating teams was far superior to last year's competition and we could, therefore, see the leveling up of the participating teams. It became a great opportunity to cultivate talented people for future transportation.”
Meanwhile, in the contest, Team 3 from Halla University came in first place, Jeyukdeopbap Team from Daegu University and AIS Team won the YU College of Engineering Prize, My Eve Team from YU and Team 5 from Halla University received the YU Machinery IT College Dean Prize, Youngcha Youngcha Team from YU and Team 6 from Halla University won the YU Engineering Education Innovation Center Director Prize.
