I came to the decision to chase my dreams of a new future in Korea, which I came to know about because of \'HOT\' and \'Shinhwa\' when I was an elementary school student. Being the only daughter, it was difficult to persuade my mother, but finally in 2004, I came to study in Korea filled with dreams and hopes. Finally, after sever years, I have become able to go back home in glory. My dreams came true.\" Wang Tien (26, female), who is currently in her fourth semester in graduate school at the Yeungnam University Department of Media and Communication, came to YU seven years ago. In the first year when China opened the market, she left her home in Liaoning and studied abroad in Korea in search of her interests in Hallyu (Korean pop culture wave). After completing a year course at the YU Korean Language Institute, she enrolled at the YU Department of Media and Communications. In September 2009, she went on to graduate school and is participating as a researcher in the YU WCU Webomatrix Institute. She was also recently given a full-time job by CJ Entertainment. In December last year, she received an internship opportunity open for foreign students studying in Korea and was recognized for her outstanding capacities while working in the CGV business planning sector. She will be working at CJ Entertainment CGV Shanghai Office in the market department. She stated, \"I never thought that I would be working in spreading Korean pop culture through Korean movies in China,\" and added, \"Some movies are not being imported in China depending on the rating, so I would like to contribute in make a policy so that more Chinese people can see a wider diversity of movie genres, and I also want to help CGV enter more markets in China.\" She also said with a smile, \"My studies in Korean started with a mere admiration and interest in Korean celebrities and Korean pop culture, but my studies gained depth and I was able to do what I always wanted. I am very happy for this and I will work with a sense of pride for others sharing my dream. She is currently working on her master\'s degree thesis so that she can graduate this coming August. Her thesis titled \'A Study on the Hallyu Phenomenon in China using Webomatrix Techniques: Focusing on Korean Singers\' focuses on analyzing the visibility of website and the link structure of fan sites for Korean singers in China, and it is about 70% complete. She gave a hint to the conclusion of the thesis saying, \"It is assessed that in China, which has many restrictions and regulations on the spreading of cultures from different countries, the Hallyu began through the internet and currently depends upon the internet. The fan club websites of Hallyu starts does not exist independently, but instead, there is active mutual communication on Korean culture and information through websites.\" <A class=imageUtil id=thumb_05526448318047342 onclick=\"return hs.run(this)\" href=\"http://www.yu.ac.kr/_yboard-2011/cheditor/show_image.php?im=__2011-06-03_09-07-18_1327.jpg\" target=_blank> Wang Tien (left) and Park, Se-jeong (right), receiving instructions from Professor Park, Han-woo in the WCU Webomatrix Institute On another note, the YU Webomatrix Institute was selected for the 2009 World Class University (WCU), and in additional to academic achievements, the job-seeking achievements of the 9 researchers, including Wang Tien, is quite remarkable. The Yeungnam University Department of Special Physical Education (dean Kim, Han-cheol) invited disabled youths and instructors in the Daegu area and held a sports event for experiencing archery and indoor sculling. The YU Department of Special Physical Education has held events every year for the \'Day for the Disabled\' by inviting disabled youths of the region. As part of this, this year about 50 mentally-challenged youths and about 20 autistic youths from four special schools in Daegu (Daejin High School, Hamji High School, Dowon High School, Daegu Electronic Technical High School) were invited to the YU Archery Center that was opened in June of last year. <A class=imageUtil id=thumb_02608724300445647 onclick=\"return hs.run(this)\" href=\"http://www.yu.ac.kr/_yboard-2011/cheditor/show_image.php?im=__2011-06-02_09-26-56_1317.jpg\" target=_blank> <A class=imageUtil id=thumb_00744261117198699 onclick=\"return hs.run(this)\" href=\"http://www.yu.ac.kr/_yboard-2011/cheditor/show_image.php?im=__2011-06-02_09-29-15_1319.jpg\" target=_blank> Park, Yong-ho (53, male), an eight-degree holder who is currently active in the Traditional Archery Team of Ulsan, and other noted bowmen demonstrated the stance, how to hold the arrow, and how to pull the string. They shot an arrow and hit their target 145 meters away, causing awes from the audience. Chae, Seong-gyeong (27), a teacher at the Chilgok Hamji High School who attended the event, said, \"Sports activities are opportunities for disabled youths to gain a sense of independence and confidence, and is thus an opportunity for a different education that will help them adapt to society,\" and added, \"This event, which is also a chance for exchange among the four schools, is expected to arouse more interest among students for \'traditional archery\', and result in more active participation.\" <A class=imageUtil id=thumb_09531525460998844 onclick=\"return hs.run(this)\" href=\"http://www.yu.ac.kr/_yboard-2011/cheditor/show_image.php?im=__2011-06-02_09-27-23_1318.jpg\" target=_blank> Professor Thomas Duvernay (50) of the YU College of Liberal Arts also attended this event. Professor Duvernay, who is well known as an avid fan of traditional Korean archery and also nicknamed the \'blue-eyed Jumong\', stated, \"Traditional archery can be enjoyed by anybody, regardless of disabilities, with practice. It not only improves health, but also can uplift a person\'s spirit,\" and added, \"I am very happy to be able to share the experience of archery, which is a tradition of the Korean people, together with both disabled and non-disabled people.\" Following the archery experience, another event for improving the mental and physical health of disabled youths through indoor sculling was held at the College of Education\'s rehabilitation training center. Kim, Han-cheol, dean of the Department of Special Physical Education, who hosted this event, stated, \"30 undergraduate students of the Department of Special Physical Education prepared for this event as volunteers, despite being the middle of mid-terms so that disabled youths could experience the traditional martial arts of archery at Apryangbeol, which was a training center for young warriors in the past.\" He also added, \"This is becoming a site for true character-building that is destroying the walls between the disabled and non-disabled.\"

Lee, who retired from her professorship at the Yeungnam University College of Music, Major of Voice, and currently lives in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, revisited Yeungnam University where she spent 30 years of her life after driving for over 4 hours on the morning of the 13th. She came to donate her savings to YU, which she saved from her pension every month since retirement so that she could spend it for her students. <A class=imageUtil id=thumb_05032069408221313 onclick=\"return hs.run(this)\" href=\"http://www.yu.ac.kr/_yboard-2011/cheditor/show_image.php?im=__2011-05-16_15-20-47_1274.jpg\" target=_blank> She met with Lee, Hyo-soo, and gave her donation pledge of 100 million won and said, \"I have only been able to save up 70 million won so far, but I will save more and donate 10 million won every year for three years to fill up the 100 million won. My retirement is set because of YU so this is the least I can do to show my appreciation,\" and added, \"The happiest thing that I could want now is to see my students in the international stage.\" On this, president Lee, Hyo-soo stated, \"I am deeply appreciative of coming to college of music early in its years to contribute to the development of the voice major and of her great donation to foster students in the future,\" and added, \"We will use this donation wisely according to her intent.\" Lee Eui-won, the dean of the college of music also expressed his gratitude saying, \"The college of music is proud of her efforts to develop the college of music and to become a role model for us,\" and added, \"We will repay her for efforts by fostering great students.\" Her love for her students continues even after her retirement. In early 2007, just before her retirement, she organized KATS (Korea Association of Teachers of Singing) with 20 professors and instructors from universities in the Daegu and Gyeonbuk. She chaired this organization for three years and after elevating it to an international society in 2009, she left her post as the chair, which was succeeded by her student Choi, Yun-hi, professor at the YU college of music, and is currently acting as an advisor. She visits Daegu to attend every meeting held once every three months. \"It\'s only natural for a teacher to want the best for her student,\" said Lee, while also adding, \"I majored in singing because I loved it, and I was able to teach students at the podium afterwards. <BODY style=\"FONT-SIZE: 9pt; MARGIN: 5px; FONT-FAMILY: gulim; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #fff\"> Professor Kim, Wha-kyong\'s Book Proves sovereignty over Dokdo Island from a Historic View Japanese claim based on myth [April 4, 2011] Recently, Japan\'s ministry of education, culture, sports, science and technology presented the results of verifying the textbooks for middle school sociology and announced its policies to \"Teach that Dokdo Island is the territory of Japan by both history and international law, and that Korea is illegally occupying it,\" and thus Korea-Japan foreign relations are once again being strained. At such point, YU\'s Professor Kim, Wha-kyong (64, Department of Korean Language and Literature) published the <History of Dokdo> (YU University Press, p. 397), clarifying the reason why Japan\'s claim is false and its problems. The author, who is also the director of the YU Dokdo Institute, begins his argument under the premise that Dokdo Island is a historic issue, and not one of international law. This is to make sure that Korea does not fall for Japan\'s plans to make Dokdo Island a regional of territorial dispute according to international law so that it can take the case to the International Court of Justice. Kim criticized, \"Japan is intending to make Dokdo Island an area of international territorial dispute so that Japan can make it into an issue of international law. However, behind this there is a conspiracy to ignore historic facts.\" The author suggests that based on the fact that Dokdo Island was located at a visible distance from Ulleungdo Island, it was a living space of people of Usanguk (Ulleungdo). This presumption is based on the customs of ancient civilizations without clear-cut concepts of borders that \'living space is as far as the land visible\', and such perception of space was found in Saito\'s book, proving that this was a common perception of the two countries. He also stated that during the course of establishing the name of Dokdo as Usando, there was a clear perception that it was a territory of Korea when composing the map in the <Sejong Chronicles>. Additionally in the process of resolving the \'Ulleungdo Issue\' (Korea-Japan conflict on the fishing rights and territorial rights when Park, Eo-dun and Ahn, Yong-bok were kidnapped by fishers of the Murakami family in 1693), he reveals that the Japanese feudal government perceived Ulleungdo (Jukdo) and Dokdo (Songdo) as one set. The Japanese feudal government at the time recognized Ulleungdo as Korean territory and forbid the crossing of sea to Jukdo (Ulleungdo), and its basis was the \'distance\' to Ulleungdo from Korea and Japan. In other words, this was because \"Ulleungdo was near Korea and very far from Hoki of Japan.\" Thus, this proves that Dokdo, which is close to Ulleungdo, was recognized as the territory of Korea. The author states that such territorial recognition of Dokdo was completed by the time of King Sukjong\'s reign. Based on the records in the <Sukjong Chronicles> in the 40th year of Sukjong (1714), it states that \"There is an island visible on the east side of Ulleungdo and it is near the border with Japan,\" which shows the Dokdo was declared as Korea\'s territory since the reign of King Sukjong. The author proved that the \'Preoccupancy of unclaimed land\', \'inherent territory theory\' and the 17th century cognitive theory\' that are the bases of Japan\'s territorial claims were not based on facts, but merely a lie made to take Dokdo, with concrete evidence. One example is that Inherent territory of the empire in the \'inherent territory theory\' that Japan uses to claim that Dokdo is their inherent land, are Honshu, Kyushu, Shikoku, and Awajido just as legend has, appearing in <Imperial Territory> discovered by Yamabe Kentaro in Ito Miyoji\'s a document. The author revealed this lack of logic claimed by Japan saying, \"Japan is the only country in the 21st century that claims inherent land based on legend.\" Through many studies and observations, the author shows that Usando was not perceived as a territory of Korea overnight, but was recognized since the 15th century. In chapter 8, after examining the critical mind on \"How did Japan view Dokdo before trying to take Dokdo\', the author revealed that in 1869, the Sata Hakubo envoy submitted a document called \'Facts Exchange with Joseon\' with clear instructions to \'investigate the facts on how Jukdo and Songdo became part of Joseon\', which in turn reveals that the Meiji government also recognized that Jukdo (Ulleungdo) and Songdo (Dokdo) as Korea\'s territory. Kim stated that \"During my research, it was repeatedly found that Dokdo was historically the territory of Korea,\" and criticized, \"Japan trying to claim that Dokdo is theirs with fraudulent logic is like trying to cover the sun with their hands and saying that the sun does not exist.\" He also emphasized, \"I repeat, Dokdo is a historic issue and not one of international law. Thus, our sovereignty over Dokdo must be defined from a historic perspective. There is absolutely no reason to try to solve it through international law.\" Meanwhile, Professor Kim presented Lee, Ju-ho, Minister of Education, Science and Technology, who attended the opening ceremony of \'Meeting Dokdo\' at the Cheonan Independence Hall of Korea on the 4th, with his book \'History of Dokdo\', and once again emphasized the importance of education on the history of Dokdo.

After one year of research to overcome this, it was possible to develop an epochal new material that can simplify the process, while enhancing performance. The fundamental solution to this was accurately understanding the property and properly utilizing it.\" Cheon, Tae-hoon (29, Master\'s degree course, photo), who is currently in the YU Graduate School of Materials Science and Engineering, recently developed a new material that can greatly reduce the stages for semiconductor processes. He became the first to develop the new material \'RuAlO\', which can replace the three layers (diffusion prevention layer, seed layer) that covers the copper wiring in semiconductors, with just one layer. \'RuAlO\' is a metallic material that was combined through the ALD (atomic layer deposition) of ruthenium (Ru) and ALD of aluminum oxide. When using this in the semiconductor process, it can not only sufficiently obtain space to install copper wires in semiconductor materials that are lower than 20nm, but also make direct plating of a thin layer on the copper wiring using the principle of electrolysis on top of this material, which can thus improve the properties of copper wires. It can also reduce resistance to minimize the size of the semiconductor materials, while also improving performance. Such achievement was made during the process of the ultra-fine/highly-reliable wiring technology development project, which was part of the \'industrial platform technology development project\', in which the Ministry of Knowledge Economy invests 2 billion won annually since March of last year. This was published in the international society last year, and caused quite a stir. Its value was recognized in early March by being published in the SCI-level international journal ≪Electrochemical and Solid-state Letters≫ (March 8). Also, on the 21st of this month, it was also published in the ≪Virtual Journal Of Nanoscale Science & Technology≫ co-published by the American Physical Society and American Institute of Physics. The ≪Virtual Journal Of Nanoscale Science & Technology≫ selects about 90 papers with great academic value among papers published around the world on the subject of nano and publishes them weekly. Cheon\'s paper received great interest from the international academic circles, as well as the semiconductor industry, after being published a week before. It is also being scheduled to be presented at the \'Materials Research Society\', which is the world\'s largest international academic conference on the materials sector, in San Francisco next month. Professor Kim, Soo-hyun (37, School of Materials Science and Engineering, right on photo), who was the advisor for the paper, stated, \"It is a great feat for a student in his master\'s degree program to have his paper selected with other papers in ≪Nature≫ or ≪Science≫ in the nano sector.\" Kim added, \"It is a great achievement in the semiconductor wiring process, which had become limited in procuring better performance during the course of reducing the size of semiconductors in order to enhance performance and degree of integration.\" Cheon, who is currently working as a TA at the YU Center for Research Facilities, is highly interested in understanding the properties of materials by utilizing various analysis techniques. He stated that he would like to continue research even after completing his studies, and said, \"We have already completed registration for domestic patents for the RuAIO that we developed, and we are currently getting ready to apply for an international patent. I am planning to continue experimenting to see if it can be used in other fields as well.\" He also added with a big smile, \"All new technologies are born through thorough understanding of the properties of the material, and various attempts at its application, and numerous trials and errors. Research on material properties, which is the basis for precision analysis, is very important and worth.\" ※ Atomic layer deposition: IT Dictionary Nano film attachment technology using the monoatomic layer that is chemically attached during the semiconductor manufacturing process. By repeatedly performing the adhesion and transposition of molecules on a wafer, it becomes possible for atomic layer-width ultra-fine layer-by-layer deposition, and oxide and metal film can be piled up at minimal thickness. In addition, because the particles made through the chemical reaction of gases can create a layer at a temperature lower than Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) at below 500 degrees, in which it is deposited on the wafer surface, it is suitable for SoC (system on chip) production. As a leader in high-technologies, Korea is at a leading position and exports core technologies.
